The Sovereign occurrence is located on the southern slopes of Mount Landale, approximately 300 metres northeast of Sherk Lake.
The area is underlain by Upper Devonian McLaughlin Ridge Formation (Sicker Group) mafic volcanics and Mississippian to Pennsylvanian Fourth Lake Formation (Buttle Lake Group) ribbon cherts and crinoidal limestone. A major anticline occurs to the east and the area is highly faulted.
Locally, highly oxidized basaltic rocks host veinlets and blebs of pyrite. A vein of rhodochrosite is exposed, approximately, 60 metres to the northeast.
In 2006 through 2008, the area was prospected by D.M. Arbic.
