The Troy occurrence is located on the south western slope of Mount Landale, approximately 1.5 kilometres northwest of Sherk Lake.

The area is underlain by cherty and argillaceous tuffs of the Devonian Sicker Group and basaltic volcanic rocks of Triassic Karmutsen Formations (Vancouver Group). These have been intruded by quartz diorite and lesser granodiorite of Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite (Saanich Granodiorite).

Locally, massive basalts of the Karmutsen Formation host a 2- metre wide argillaceous shear zone and a 1 metre wide quartz vein, located 100 metres above the shear. These have been oxidized and mineralized with approximately 2 to 3 per cent sulphides, including pyrite, chalcopyrite and minor malachite staining. The massive basalts are reported to contain on average 2 to 3 per cent disseminated sulphides, consisting of pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and pyrite.

From 2004 through 2006, the area was prospected by D. Herriot as the Troy claim (El Capitan property).
