The ATI occurrence is located near the confluence of the San Juan River and Allan Creek, just off the Bear Creek Main. The slate exposure is in a roadside borrow pit.

The area is underlain by metasediments of the Jurassic-Cretaceous Leech River Formation. A detailed description of the site is not available.

Van Isle Slate operates the quarry for slate.
