Capsule Geology

The Silver Creek occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 790 metres on a southwest-facing slope, east of Silver Creek and approximately 2.5 kilometres southwest of Mount Brenton. The Lara (Coronation Zone – MINFILE 092B 129) developed prospect is located approximately 2.6 kilometres to the west.

Regionally, the area is underlain by chert, siliceous argillite and siliciclastic rocks of the Mississippian to Pennsylvanian Forth Lake Formation (Buttle Lake Group) and calc-alkaline volcanics of the Devonian Nitinat Formation (Sicker Group). Gabbroic to dioritic intrusive rocks of the Late Triassic Mount Hall Gabbro intrude the previous formations, while granodioritic intrusive rocks of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite are exposed to the northwest. The Silver Creek zone is comprised of stringer style mineralization consisting of chalcopyrite in quartz veins hosted by chloritic volcanic flows/tuffs, which overlie a thick sequence of felsic volcanic rocks. Drilling indicates the presence of a gabbro intrusion. The zones appear to be on a more northerly trend as part of the northern limb of a synclinal structure than the main Corona trend (Lara MINFILE 092B 129) occurrence. In 1985, a grab sample (AB18072) from a trench on the Silver Creek zone yielded 1.01 per cent copper, 0.89 per cent lead, 2.40 per cent zinc, 19.5 grams per tonne silver and 0.50 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 14411).

Diamond drilling, later in 1985, on the Silver Creek zone yielded intercepts including 1.01 per cent zinc over 7.5 metres (6.3 metres true width; 43.3 to 50.8 metres down hole) of chloritic, intermediate volcaniclastic rocks hosting 5 to 40 per cent sulphides including pyrrhotite and sphalerite stringers and disseminated pyrrhotite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite in hole CHEM-10-85 and 2.82 per cent copper, 7.2 grams per tonne silver and 0.16 gram per tonne gold over 0.3 metre (0.3 metre true width; 81.4 to 81.7 metres down hole) from a chalcopyrite-pyrrhotite mineralized quartz vein in gabbro in hole CHEM-13-85, located 75 metres west of the previous drillhole (Assessment Report 14411).

In 1990, drillhole CH90-130, located near the Holyoak 2-3 border and approximately 450 metres northwest of the main Silver Creek zone, yielded 0.13 per cent copper, 2.12 per cent zinc, 0.69 per cent lead, 5.4 grams per tonne silver and 0.22 gram per tonne gold over 0.10 metre (232.10 to 232.20 metres down hole; Assessment Report 20957). This zone of mineralization is proposed to be related to the Silver Creek zone.

Also at this time, drillhole 90-308, located approximately 600 metres south-southwest of the main occurrence area, yielded 0.45 per cent zinc over 2.30 metres (40.90 to 43.20 metres down hole) from a sequence of andesite ash to fine-grained tuffs hosting disseminated pyrite with trace sphalerite and chalcopyrite and 0.16 per cent zinc over 7.35 metres (117.10 to 124.45 metres down hole) from an andesite ash-tuff horizon (Assessment Report 20981).

The 262 zone of the Lara (MINFILE 092B 192) occurrence is located approximately 700 metres south of the Silver Creek zone and comprises a sub-parallel zone to the main Corona trend zones and has been drill tested over a strike length of 6.5 kilometres. The zone comprises felsic volcanic rocks hosting a distal exhalite composed of pyritic cherts, ashes, and thin, copper-rich, semi-massive to massive sulphides and occurs within 40 metres of the contact between the felsic and the underlying andesite rocks. The best development of exhalative sulphides, cherts and stringer mineralization is found in shallow, near surface holes. At depth, there is a fine-grained, siliceous felsic ash that is depleted in base metals and hosted in unaltered felsic rocks, suggesting that this zone has limited opportunity for development.

Another area of mineralization was identified in a recent (2010s) logging road blast pit located approximately 600 metres to the north of the Silver Creek zone. The pit exposes an altered rhyolite hosting lenses of semi-massive sulphides that pinch and swell from 3 to 15 centimetres wide. The sulphides consist of primarily pyrite with variable amounts of sphalerite, minor chalcopyrite and possible arsenopyrite. The mineralized zone is reported to offset from the Silver Creek zone and could represent a potential parallel zone to the north.

In 2014, a rock sample (123213) from the mineralized zone yielded 0.68 per cent zinc, 0.11 per cent copper, 17.7 grams per tonne silver and 0.704 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 35428).

Work History

In 1966, Cominco Ltd. conducted an induced polarization survey on the area as the Tot-Rum property.

In 1977, Imperial Oil Ltd. completed a program of geochemical (silt and soil) sampling and a 30.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area immediately north as the Holy Group. In 1978, Union Miniere Exploration and Mining Corp. Ltd. conducted a soil sampling program on the area immediately south and west as the Mouse, Bear, Dear, Elk and Pika claims.

In 1984, Esso Resources conducted a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil sampling) on the Brent 1 and Oak 1-3 claims. Kidd Creek Mines Ltd. optioned the property in late 1984 and completed an airborne electromagnetic survey. In 1985, Kidd Creek Mines Ltd. completed a program of ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys, an induced polarization survey and seven diamond drill holes, totalling 1534 metres, on the Brent 1 and Oak 1-3 claims.

During 1986 through 1990, Laramide Resources and Abermin Corp. (later Minova Inc.) completed programs of diamond drilling, geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the area as part of the larger Lara Property. Also in 1986, Kidd Creek Mines Ltd., on behalf of Esso Resources Canada Ltd., conducted 72.0 line-kilometres of combined ground magnetic, electromagnetic and induced polarization surveys on the Chip, Holyoak 1-3 and Brent claims. In 1988, Esso Resources Canada Limited and Falconbridge, on behalf of Kidd Creek Minerals Ltd., completed a single diamond drill hole, totalling 195.1 metres, on the Holyoak 2 claim. In 1990, Falconbridge Ltd. completed a four-hole diamond drilling program, totalling 1801.7 metres, on the Holyoak 1-3 and Brent 1 claims.

In 1998, Nucanolan Resources, on the behalf of Laramide Resources, completed a program of ground magnetics and VLF-EM surveys over discrete sections of the Coronation and Coronation Zone Extension and 12 diamond drill holes, totalling 2550 metres, on the Laramide property.

In 2006 and 2007, Laramide Resources, for Treasury Metals Inc., completed a program of comprehensive data compilation, airborne geophysical surveys, totalling 500.1-line kilometres and drill core re-sampling on the Lara property. In 2009, Treasury Metals completed a program of structural mapping and whole rock geochemical sampling on the Lara property.

In 2014, Treasury Metals completed a further program of structural mapping, whole rock geochemical sampling and environmental baseline studies on the Lara property. In 2018, Treasury Metals conducted a 6388.0-hectare airborne LiDAR survey on the Lara property.
