The Rough occurrence is reported to be located near the BC Hydro road crossing Rough Creek.
The area is underlain by basalt of the Eocene Metchosin Volcanics and gabbroic and diabase intrusions related to the coeval Sooke Gabbro occur nearby. The basalt and gabbroic rocks are sheared, brecciated and altered. Granitic intrusions have formed large breccia zones with hornblendite and pegmatites intruding and filling the brecciated older rock.
Locally, a zone of sheeting and altered hornblendic basalt hosts pyrite and chalcopyrite mineralization. Grab samples assayed up to 0.25 per cent copper (Property File - Macsan Explorations Ltd. [1966-05-13]: Prospectus Report - Macsan Explorations Ltd.).
A shear zone in brecciated basalt and gabbro, reported near the dam, averaged 0.3 per cent copper over 30 metres (Property File - Macsan Explorations Ltd. [1966-05-13]: Prospectus Report - Macsan Explorations Ltd.).
In 1966, the area was prospected and sampled by Macsan Explorations.
