Capsule Geology

The Mud Creek target area is located is located on a steep south-southwest–facing slope, north of Mud Creek and approximately 3.5 kilometres south of Parbury Ridge. The RD (MINFILE 083D 050) occurrence is located approximately 2.9 kilometres to the southeast.

Regionally, the area is underlain by Neoproterozoic (Hadrynian) Horsethief Creek Group metasedimentary rocks and derived gneisses. Medium to coarse crystalline sovite and beforsite carbonatite sills intrude the Horsethief Creek rocks. For further information on regional and local geology of the area refer to the nearby Fir (MINFILE 083D 035) occurrence.

The Mud Creek carbonatite is reported to be a sovite with apatite, pyrrhotite and phlogopite, and is in contact with a phlogopite-amphibole-diopside rock.

In 1986, a sample from (89-04-13) an amphibolite dike yielded up to 1.5 per cent total rare earth elements, whereas another sample (89-05-08) of amphibolite with massive apatite assayed 0.181 gram per tonne gold and 23.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 20572).

In 2008, two chip samples (32951 and 32952) yielded values up to 978.1 parts per million niobium and an average of approximately 1635 parts per million total rare earth elements (Assessment Report 31174). Values for promethium and scandium were not reported.

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Verity (MINFILE 093D 005) and Fir (MINFILE 083D 035) occurrences, and a complete regional exploration history can be found there.

In 1989 and 1990, Gary L. Johnston conducted programs of prospecting, geological mapping, rock sampling and a 16.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic and radiometric survey on the area s the Pleiades claims.

In 2002, Blue River Resources conducted a minor program of heavy mineral sampling on the area as the Niobi claims.

During 2008 through 2013, Commerce Resources Corp. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and a 2439.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and radiometric survey on the area as part of the Blue River property.
