Capsule Geology

The Felix carbonatite is located on a steep southeast-facing slope, northwest of Mud Creek and approximately 11.5 kilometres east of Parbury Ridge. The RD (MINFILE 083D 050) occurrence is located approximately 10.5 kilometres to the southwest.

Regionally, the area is underlain by Neoproterozoic (Hadrynian) Horsethief Creek Group metasedimentary rocks and derived gneisses. Medium to coarse crystalline sovite and beforsite carbonatite sills intrude the Horsethief Creek rocks. For further information on regional and local geology of the area refer to the nearby Fir (MINFILE 083D 035) occurrence.

Locally, a calciocarbonatite (sovite) with subhedral to euhedral zircons, coarse-grained magnetite, medium- to coarse-grained apatite, phlogopite (±vermiculite), richterite and calcite (±dolomite) has been reported. The carbonatite is mylonitized in the southwest and has boudinage structures in the northwest. It is cross-cut by pegmatites, as well as an apatite-tremolite/actinolite-richterite ultramafic rock.

In 2008, two rock samples (50803 and 50804) from the carbonatite yielded an average of 37.2 parts per million niobium and approximately 1030 parts per million total rare earth elements (Assessment Report 31174). Values for promethium and scandium were not reported.

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Verity (MINFILE 093D 005) and Fir (MINFILE 083D 035) occurrences, and a complete regional exploration history can be found there.

During 2008 through 2013, Commerce Resources Corp. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and a 2439.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and radiometric survey on the area as part of the Blue River property.

In 2024, Capacitor Metals Corp. conducted a program of historical data compilation and interpretation on the area as a part of the regionally extensive Blue River Property.
