The Brenallan kyanite-staurolite occurrence is located along the western shore line of Kinbasket Lake, approximately 21 kilometres north-northeast of the community of Mica Creek.
The area is underlain primarily by metasedimentary rocks of the Hadrynian Horsethief Creek Group. For a more detailed description of the regional geological settings refer to the Warsaw Mountain occurrence (MINFILE 083D 041).
Locally, kyanite crystals, measuring up to 72 centimetres across, and staurolite crystals, up to 3 centimetres in length with a width 6 millimetres, occur throughout mica schists. Up to 10 per cent garnet occurs, as well. The staurolite crystals occur with no twinning and a straight shaft.
In 2008, prospecting was completed in the area.
