The Bluff 2-4 occurrence is located at an elevation of 950 metres on a southeast-facing slope between Birk and Harper Creeks and approximately 2.4 kilometres northwest of the southwest end of North Barriere Lake.
Regionally, the area is underlain by the Graffunder Lakes, Skwaam Bay and Slate Creek units of the upper Paleozoic to lower Cambrian Eagle Bay Assemblage, which consist of micaceous quartzite, sericite-quartz schist, mudstone, siltstone, shale and calc-alkaline volcanic rocks. Local foliation strikes 135 degrees with a 5-degree northeast dip. The Cretaceous Baldy Batholith, consisting of quartz monzonitic intrusive rocks, lies to the north.
Locally, sphalerite and galena stringers are hosted in an argillite and/or quartz-sericite schist.
In 1987, a rotary drill hole (NRD-87-13) intercepted a silica-flooded muddy tuff with minor intercalations of phyllite hosting disseminated pyrite with minor galena and sphalerite yielding 0.029 per cent copper, 0.175 per cent lead, 0.305 per cent zinc and 3.8 gram per tonne silver over 21.3 metres, including 0.055 per cent copper, 0.328 per cent lead, 0.997 per cent zinc and 11.2 gram per tonne silver over 1.6 metres (Assessment Report 17344).
In 1989, a rock sample (VA12255) assayed 7.8 grams per tonne silver, 1.12 per cent lead and 0.513 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 19363).
In 1990, drillhole BC90-06 intercepted a weakly altered intermediate to felsic ash tuff intruded by thin felsic dikes hosting chalcopyrite yielding up to 1.28 per cent copper, 7.3 grams per tonne silver and 0.093 gram per tonne gold over 0.90 metre (Assessment Report 21208).
Also at this time, re-logging of the Duncanex 1971 drillcores yielded 0.44 and 0.33 per cent copper with 0.03 and 0.02 per cent zinc over 8.53 and 4.59 metres in holes D71-1 and D71-3, respectively (Assessment Report 21208).
Work History
The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Percy (MINFILE 082M 219) occurrence and a completed exploration history can be found there. In 1972, three drillholes were completed by Duncanex on this zone. In 1987, Noranda completed two rotary drill holes on the occurrence area.
During 1989 through 1991, Falconbridge Ltd. completed programs of geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, geological mapping, 97.7 line-kilometres of combined ground magnetic, electromagnetic and induced polarization surveys, trenching and at least nine diamond drill holes, totalling 2619.2 metres, on the Bluff, Bet, Mac, Raven, Rust and Percy claims.
During 2005 through 2013, the area was prospected and (rock, silt and soil) sampled as the Stellar claims.
