The Lucky Boy (NB 2-Area C) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 820 metres on a steep south-southeast–facing slope overlooking North Barriere Lake, approximately 2.5 kilometres northeast of the southwest end of the lake.

The area is underlain by metavolcanics and metasediments of the Devonian Skwaam Bay unit of the Eagle Bay Assemblage. The rocks consist of phyllites and schists derived from felsic to intermediate calc-alkaline volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks. The strata forms a homoclinal sequence with a moderate, uniform, southwesterly dip. The Cretaceous Baldy Batholith lies to the north.

Locally, a prominent gossanous zone with semi-massive to massive sulphide mineralization, varying from 0.20 to greater than 1 metre in width, is hosted by quartz-calcite-chlorite schist/skarn and marble skarn. Sulphide mineralization comprises primarily pyrite (up to 80 per cent) with varying amounts of pyrrhotite, magnetite, minor chalcopyrite and trace sphalerite.

In 1984, sampling of disseminated and stringer mineralization from trench no. 3 (later referred to as trench no. 1), located downslope to the south-southeast of the main trench (no. 2), yielded values of up to 0.55 gram per tonne gold and greater than 0.40 per cent copper (Assessment Report 13434). Prior to the trenching program, soil sampling identified a north-trending anomalous area of gold–copper-in-soil yielding values from 120 to 1275 parts per billion gold in 10 soil samples (Assessment Report 12567).

In 1990, three samples (OTREA012, 013 and 014) from the main no. 2 trench yielded values from 0.226 to 0.527 per cent copper, 2.7 to 3.8 grams per tonne silver and 0.01 to 1.88 grams per tonne gold (Property File – Heberlein, D. [1990-07-20]: Property Evaluation - Harper/Lucky Boy).

In 2005, a float sample (129327) taken a short distance northwest of the no. 1 trench assayed 0.145 per cent copper and 1.27 grams per tonne gold, whereas an outcrop sample from the no.1 trench area assayed 0.41 gram per tonne gold and 0.115 per cent copper (Assessment Report 27951).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Harper (MINFILE 082M 060) occurrence and a complete exploration history can be found there. At least three trenches and 13 drillholes have historically been completed on the occurrence area, but the date(s) and records of this work are not known.
