The Bay 7 (B zone) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1420 metres in the southwest headwaters of Samatosum Creek.

Regionally, the area is underlain by limestone, marble, calcareous sedimentary rocks and greenschist metamorphic rocks of the Lower Cambrian Eagle Bay Assemblage. Bedding strikes approximately 130 degrees and dips 20 to 30 degrees northeast.

Locally, an alteration zone of bleaching, silicification, sericitization, dolomitization and pyritization, 200 to 300 metres wide and at least 1200 metres long, occurs in mafic lapilli tuff and tuff with local interbedded limestone, dolomite, chert, and argillite. Mineralization comprises quartz veins with pyrite and minor galena-sphalerite.

In 1988, trenching on the main B zone yielded 1.25 grams per tonne gold over 16 metres in trench TR88-42 and 0.42 gram per tonne gold over 0.6 metre in trench TR88-40A, whereas a trench (TR88-36) located approximately 600 metres to the south-southeast, yielded 0.020 to 0.060 per cent zinc over 70 metres, including grab sample that yielded values of up to 2.6 per cent zinc, 0.67 per cent copper and 0.16 gram per tonne gold (Property File - Beekmann, J. [1988-07-10]: 1988 Mapping and Trenching Report Bay Property).

In 1989, a drillhole (BA89-8) intersected two zones of dolomitization extending for 25 and 95 metres, respectively, with three intervals of anomalous gold. The first anomalous zone yielded 0.70 gram per tonne gold over 10.32 metres, including 2.19 grams per tonne gold over 1.0 metre, whereas the second zone yielded 0.31 gram per tonne gold over 26.0 metres, including 3.60 grams per tonne gold over 1.0 metre, and the third zone yielded 0.17 gram per tonne gold over 31.0 metres, including 3.22 grams per tonne gold over 1.0 metre (Assessment Report 19187).

Also at this time, another drillhole (BA89-1), located approximately 600 metres to the south-southeast, yielded 3.9 grams per tonne gold over 1.0 metre (Assessment Report 19187).

Work History

In 1977 and 1978, Cominco completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and a 7.6 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Bay claims.

During 1982 through 1984, Westmin Resources Ltd. completed ground magnetic, electromagnetic and induced polarization surveys and two diamond drill holes, totalling 102.9 metres, on the Bay claims.

In 1987, Kidd Creek Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling, geological mapping and a 70.0 line-kilometre combined ground electromagnetic and magnetic survey on the Bay claims. The following year, 15 trenches, totalling 3480 metres, were completed on the Bay claims.

In 1989, Falconbridge Ltd. completed nine diamond drill holes, totalling 1333.4 metres, on the Bay 7 claim.

In 1999, Eagle Plains Resources staked the Acacia property on the area. The following year, a program of rock, silt, and soil sampling was completed. In 2005, Amarc Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and lithogeochemical sampling on the area as the Sin 1-12 claims of the Max property.

During 2007 through 2012, Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical (rock, silt, and soil) sampling and 738 line-kilometres of magnetic and radiometric surveys on the area as part of the Acacia property. In 2017, a further program of rock and soil sampling was completed on the property.
