The Fortuna 1 (Kidzicks) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1450 metres on a south-southeast–trending ridge, northeast of Birk Creek, approximately 5 kilometres northwest of its junction with the Barriere River.

Regionally, the area is underlain by the Graffunder Lakes, Skwaam Bay and Slate Creek units of the upper Paleozoic to lower Cambrian Eagle Bay Assemblage, which consist of micaceous quartzite, sericite-quartz schist, mudstone, siltstone, shale and calc-alkaline volcanic rocks. Local foliation strikes 135 degrees with a 5 degree northeast dip. The Cretaceous Baldy Batholith, consisting of quartz monzonitic intrusive rocks, lies to the north.

Locally, a sericite-quartz schists hosts coarse-grained pods of galena with minor pyrite in quartz veins that are 2.4 to 3.0 metres wide and 30 to 46 metres long. Magnetite is also reported. The veins strike north-south and dip vertical.

A second galena-sphalerite bearing quartz vein hosted in felsic to intermediate volcanic tuffs is reported to be located at an elevation of approximately 1440 metres on a steep southwest-facing slope, approximately 470 metres west-northwest of the main vein and adit.

Another zone of mineralization is reported to be exposed by a trench at an elevation of 1425 metres, approximately 400 metres south-south east of the main vein and adit. The zone comprises a sericitized and pyritic feldspar crystal tuff with anomalous gold values.

In 1987, a grab sample (89319) from the adit dump assayed 34.10 per cent lead and 3426 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 16108). Also at this time, samples from the southern trenched zone are reported to have yielded 0.40 gram per tonne gold over at least 10 metres width (Assessment Report 19363).

In 1989, a grab sample (VA12286) from the western quartz vein is reported to have yielded 2627 grams per tonne silver, 39.30 per cent lead and greater than 0.200 per cent antimony, whereas a rock sample (VA12287) from the southern trenched zone assayed 0.63 gram per tonne gold, 15.9 grams per tonne silver and 0.178 per cent lead (Assessment Report 19363).

In 1990, a sample (VA12364) from the Fortune 1 adit assayed 0.48 gram per tonne gold, 161.8 grams per tonne silver and 2.11 per cent lead (Assessment Report 21208).

In 2011, a rock sample (8R202195) of quartz vein with galena from the occurrence area assayed 35.4 grams per tonne silver and 1.96 per cent lead (Assessment Report 32147).

Work History

Two adits of unknown age are reported on the occurrence. In 1973, Craigmont Mines Ltd. completed a program of geochemical sampling and ground geophysical surveys on the area as the BC claims.

In 1975, a lone drillhole, totalling 75.0 metres, was completed on the area as the Snowbird 1-4 claims.

In 1982 and 1983, Preussag Canada Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, ground electromagnetic surveys and three diamond drill holes, totalling 365.2 metres, on the Percy 1 and Bluff 1-4 claims.

During 1984 through 1987, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. completed programs of geochemical sampling, ground and airborne geophysical surveys, 14 diamond drill holes, totalling 1036.9 metres, and 605 metres of trenching. Most of this work was performed on the Fortuna 2 (MINFILE 082M 070) occurrence to the northwest.

In 1989, Minnova Inc. examined and sampled the area as the BC-Loranger property. During 1989 through 1991, Falconbridge Ltd. completed programs of geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, geological mapping, 97.7 line-kilometres of combined ground magnetic, electromagnetic and induced polarization surveys, trenching and at least nine diamond drill holes, totalling 2619.2 metres, on the Bluff, Bet, Mac, Raven, Rust and Percy claims.

During 2005 through 2012, the area was prospected and (rock, silt and soil) sampled as the Stellar claims.
