The Dobbin prospect is located in the northwest headwaters of Bit Creek, a tributary of Powers Creek, at an elevation of approximately 1700 metres and approximately 2.5 kilometres southwest of Whiterocks Mountain.

The area is underlain by argillaceous rocks, basalt tuffs and flows and minor rhyolite and limestone of the Devonian to Triassic Harper Ranch Group. These rocks are intruded by Middle Jurassic ultramafic/monzonite and calc-alkaline complexes of the informally named Terrace Creek Batholith. The diverse ultramafic/monzonite complex comprises hornblende gabbro, quartz monzonite, mafic monzonite, porphyritic monzonite, biotite pyroxenite and hornblende pyroxenite.

Locally, a northeast-trending hornblende pyroxenite plug hosts alkaline porphyry-type mineralization consisting of copper, platinum, palladium and silver. Pyrite, magnetite and chalcopyrite occur as disseminations in pyroxenite, epidote-albite veinlets in hornblende and biotite pyroxenites, gabbro and, to a lesser extent, monzonite. Bornite, malachite and azurite have been reported and chlorite-epidote-sericite alteration is present. The central pyroxenite-hosted mineralization covers a 120 by 30 metre area, with surrounding mineralization covering a 400 by 200 metre area, and has been tested to a depth of approximately 300 metres. Pyrite and chalcopyrite mineralization in pyroxenite and gabbro also occurs 600 and 900 metres to the north. Molybdenite mineralization occurs in quartz veinlets and in fractures in quartz diorite dikes that cut the ultramafic/monzonite complex.

In 1969, diamond drilling yielded 0.38 per cent copper over 12.3 metres in hole No.1, including 0.73 per cent over 3 metres and 0.32 per cent copper over 33 metres in hole No.2 (Property File - M.E. Coates [1970-01-22]: Geology, Geochemistry and Geophysics of the Dobbin Groups I, II & III). Surface sampling yielded up to 1.05 per cent copper with 6.8 grams per tonne silver over 1.2 metres from pit 4 and 0.30 per cent copper with 3.4 grams per tonne silver over 6.9 metres in pit 5 (Property File - C.A.R. Lammle [1969-08-27]: Preliminary Geological Report on Whiterocks Mountain Property). The following year, diamond drilling (hole no. 5) yielded up to 0.06 per cent copper over 42.6 metres (Property File - M.E. Coates [1970-06-10]: Report on Diamond Drilling Dobbin Claim Groups).

In 1972, a 122-metre vertical hole is reported to have yielded 0.30 per cent copper over its entire length (Assessment Report 25290).

In 1974, diamond drilling yielded from 0.10 to 0.40 per cent copper over intervals up to 45 metres (Assessment Report 5341, 5568).

In 1977, sampling of trenches is reported to have yielded up to 0.42 per cent copper, 1 gram per tonne platinum and 0.65 gram per tonne palladium over 3 metres (Property File - Verdstone Group of Companies [1997-01-01]: Summary's on the Verdstone Group of Companies - Dobbin).

In 1980, a drillhole (PDH80-26) yielded 0.136 per cent copper over 9 metres (Assessment Report 8456).

In 1990, surface samples yielded up to 0.705 per cent copper and 0.20 gram per tonne gold (Property File - Chevron Minerals Ltd. [1990-01-01]: Geology Map - Alocin Property).

In 1997, diamond drilling (hole 97-21) yielded intercepts of up to 111-metres averaging 0.19 per cent copper, 0.410 gram per tonne platinum and 0.352 gram per tonne palladium, within which was 15 metres of 0.54 per cent copper, 1.316 grams per tonne platinum and 0.949 gram per tonne palladium (GCNL #223 (Nov.20), 1997). A 9-metre composite sample from another hole assayed 0.11 gram per tonne iridium (Exploration in BC 1997, page 40). Sampling of trenches yielded up to 0.37 per copper, 0.29 gram per tonne platinum with 0.20 gram per tonne palladium over 10 metres and 0.31 per cent copper, 1.0 gram per tonne platinum with 0.47 gram per tonne palladium over 3 metres (Property File - Verdstone Gold Corporation [1997-01-01]: Collected Press Releases - Dobbin Project, Porphyry Copper and Platinum-Palladium Showing).

In 1998, a preliminary estimate of reserves for the Dobbin Central zone, based on 22 drillholes to an average depth of 300 metres, was 1 363 694 tonnes grading 0.192 per cent copper, 0.237 gram per tonne platinum and 0.196 gram per tonne palladium (Property File - Verdstone Gold Corp. [1999-04-19]: News Articles - Dobbin).

A second zone of mineralization, referred to as the Kenny 2000 zone, is located approximately 500 metres west of the Dobbin Central zone (where DDH 97-1 to 17 and 19-22 were located). The Kenny 2000 zone, hosted by a hornblende gabbro breccia, contains similar mineralization (primarily pyrite and chalcopyrite) to the Dobbin Central zone. Biotite, calcite and epidote are also reported. The most notable difference between the two zones is 3 to 10 per cent pyrite as veins and disseminations in the Kenny 2000 zone and only sparse pyrite in the Dobbin Central zone. In 2000, three surface samples yielded up to 0.335 gram per tonne platinum, 0.282 gram per tonne palladium and 0.154 per cent copper over 3.0 metres (Property File - Molycor Gold Corp. [2000-11-08]: No. 214 (2000) - Platinum Assays Received). In 2003, a drillhole (D-03-2) intercepted 6.1 metres grading 0.15 per cent copper, 0.39 gram per tonne platinum and 0.26 gram per tonne palladium (Assessment Report 27303).

Another zone of mineralization is reported approximately 1050 metres to the southeast of the main Dobbin zone. In 1978, samples are reported to have yielded up to 0.225 per cent copper, 0.450 gram per tonne platinum and 0.900 gram per tonne palladium over 3 metres (Property File - Verdstone Gold Corporation [1997-01-01]: Collected Press Releases - Dobbin Project, Porphyry Copper and Platinum-Palladium Showing).

The area was staked in 1967 by A. Brewer. In 1968, I. Greg and G. Shell drilled the property and Texas Gulf Sulphur drilled the northern showings. In 1969 and 1970, Atlas Exploration carried out a program of geological mapping, soil geochemistry, 14 drillholes, totalling 960 metres, and magnetometer and induced polarization surveys on the area as the Whiterock property. Geoquest Resources Ltd. drilled the property in 1972. During 1974 through 1976, Rockel Mines Ltd. carried out geological mapping, trenching and drilling. During 1977 through 1979, Cominco carried out geological mapping, magnetometer, induced polarization and drill programs. In 1990, Chevron Minerals completed a program of geochemical sampling and geological mapping on the area as the Alocin property.

In 1997, Verdstone Gold Corp. and Molycor Gold Corp. completed a program of soil sampling and seven diamond drill holes, totalling 1446.2 metres. In 2000, Verdstone/Molycor performed a program of trenching and mapping program focused on untested hydrothermal alteration and breccia zones, copper in soil geochemical anomalies and magnetometer and IP geophysical anomalies within a 1-kilometre radius of the Central anomaly. The program led to the discovery of the Kenny 2000 zone. In 2000, the provincial Geological Survey Branch carried out geological mapping, geochemical rock, soil and plant sampling. In 2003, two drillholes, totalling 365.8 metres, and mapping and sampling (two rock chip samples each taken across a 3 metres width) of an 800 by 600 metre area was performed on the Kenny 2000 area.
