Prospector Francis LaRoche discovered rough edge placer gold in 2005 with quartz attached along a road cut while hand panning culvert catch basins in the Shaw Hill area. The location is described as 2 kilometres southeast of Big Heffley Lake. The area was being explored for copper-gold potential.
