Capsule Geology

The SBA occurrence is located about 600 metres east of Sundown Creek, and approximately 5 kilometres south of the mouth Moyie Lake.

The area is underlain by a sedimentary sequence of alternating argillite, greywacke, quartzites, and conglomerate turbidites of the Proterozoic Middle Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup). Gabbro-diorite sills of the Proterozoic Moyie Intrusions intrude the sequence. In 2013, a subcrop rock sample (SK13-71) collected from a rusty crystalline quartz vein hosted in gabbro assayed 0.117 per cent lead, 0.05 per cent copper and 0.8 gram per tonne silver (Assessment Report 34914). Goethite wad and carbonate were also reported.

In 1991, Chapleau Resources completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and a ground VLF-EM geophysical survey on the area as the Sun claims. In 1992 and 1993, Cominco completed further ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys and a soil sampling program. In 1996, Sedex Mining completed 16 line-kilometres of ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys and two diamond drill holes, totalling 194.5 metres. During 2012 through 2014, Kootenay Silver Inc completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the area as Spikes Big Adventure property. In 2012, 12 rock and 101 soil samples were collected (Assessment Report 34178). In 2013, Kootenay Silver collected 34 rock and 54 soil samples (Assessment Report 34194). In 2016, Kootenay Silver conducted a 25.7-kilometre VLF-EM and ground magnetic survey over their Spike's Big Adventure property (Assessment Report 36655). In 2018, a total of 240 soil samples were collected for pXRF from the Spike's Big Adventure (SBA) property, just north of the Spike occurrence (082GSW092) (Assessment Report 37847). In 2019, a total of 77 rock samples and 486 soil samples were collected on the SBA property on behalf of owner Craig Kennedy (Assessment Report 38387). The SBA property covered parts of the previous Cruz property claims that were explored in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Prospecting was also done over a large area from west of Stone Creek east through Sundown and Sunrise creeks. Samples in 2019 were collected in the area of MINFILE occurrences: Cruz (082GSW066), Sunrise Surprise (082GSW091), and Spike (formerly Sun 4-5) (082GSW092). See also newly documented showing Sun 6 (082GSW117).
