The Sun 6 showing is located 1.5 kilometres southeast of Moyie River and just east of Sundown Creek.
The area is underlain by argillite, greywacke, wacke, and conglomerate turbidites of the Precambrian (Helikian) Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup). Gabbro-diorite sills of the Proterozoic Moyie Intrusions intrude the sequence.
In 1996, operator Sedex Mining Corporation completed 2 diamond drill holes on their Sun claims (Assessment Report 24840). DDH Sun 96-1 was drilled to test a zone of mineralized quartzites which contained disseminated galena, sphalerite and pyrrhotite. The quartzites were exposed in a hand trench between the Sundown Creek logging road and Sundown Creek.
A 1- to 1.5-metre-thick quartzite bed carries disseminated galena and sphalerite mineralization over a strike length of at least 150 metres, likely on the Sun 6 claim. In 1991, a grab sample may have been taken from this zone (57967). It assayed 0.863 per cent lead, 0.965 per cent zinc, and 8.1 grams per tonne silver (Property File - Chapleau Resources Ltd. [1991-10-01]: Report on South Moyie Lake Area - Sun Claims).
The drill hole was collared in quartzites and siltstones reported to be typical of the Middle Aldridge Formation, and continued in this lithology to a depth of 59.6 meters. From 27.4 to 25.0 meters a granular, porous quartzite unit contained numerous blebs of galena and sphalerite. This unit is interpreted to be correlative to the surface occurrence of base metal mineralized quartzite. From 59.6 metres to the final depth of 68.88 meters the hole passed through the upper portion of a gabbro sill.
The mineralized interval is narrow, and the lead and zinc values were considered sub-economic. Refer to Sun 6 occurrence area sketch (Figure 5, Prospecting Map, Assessment Report 38387) for pertinent geological and location information of the Sun 6 occurrence.
WORK HISTORY
In 1991, Chapleau Resources completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping, and a ground VLF-EM geophysical survey on the area as the Sun claims. In 1992 and 1993, Cominco completed further ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys and a soil sampling program.
In 1996, Sedex Mining completed 16 line-kilometres of ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys and two diamond drill holes, totaling 194.5 metres. During 2012 through 2014, Kootenay Silver Inc completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the area as Spikes Big Adventure property.
In 2012, 12 rock and 101 soil samples were collected (Assessment Report 34178). In 2013, Kootenay Silver collected 34 rock and 54 soil samples (Assessment Report 34914). In 2016, Kootenay Silver conducted a 25.7-kilometre VLF-EM and ground magnetic survey over their Spike's Big Adventure property (Assessment Report 36655).
In 2018, a total of 240 soil samples were collected for pXRF analysis from the Spike's Big Adventure (SBA) property, just north of the Spike occurrence (082GSW092) (Assessment Report 37847).
In 2019, total of 77 rock samples and 486 soil samples were collected on the SBA property on behalf of owner Craig Kennedy (Assessment Report 38387). The SBA property covered parts of the previous Cruz property claims that were explored in the 1990s and early 2000s. Samples in 2019 were collected in the area of the Cruz (082GSW066), Sunrise Surprise (082GSW091), and Spike (formerly Sun 4-5) (082GSW092). Soil samples were collected about 1 kilometre to the northeast and east-southeast of the Cruz MINFILE plot. Prospecting in 2019 was done over a large area from west of Stone Creek east through Sundown and Sunrise creeks.
For related geological and work history refer to MINFILE occurrences: Cruz (082GSW066), Stone Creek (082GSW116), Sunrise Surprise (082GSW091), and Spike (082GSW092).
