Capsule Geology

The Flathead 4 is located on a ridge separating Howell Creek and the Flathead River, approximately 54 kilometres southeast of Fernie.

The area of the Flathead 4 (Grid E) occurrence is underlain by dolomitic carbonate rocks of the Mississippian Rundle Group intruded by a Cretaceous stocks comprising syenite to monzonite. Rocks in the showing area consist of pyritic intrusion breccia and isolated quartz veins often with traces of chalcopyrite. Three rock samples and 150 soil samples were collected in 1985 by Placer Dome (Assessment Report 15359). Copper exhibited a strong soil geochemical pattern centred on the stock, which was in part coincident with a moderate arsenic soil anomaly.
