Capsule Geology

The Anomal-E occurrence is located 40 kilometres southeast of the community of Fernie, just north of Wutluk Creek.

The Anomal-E showing consists of galena in a Cretaceous syenite-trachite complex. The Cretaceous stock intrudes sedimentary rocks of the Mesoproterozoic Purcell Supergroup, with the sedimentary rock contact being about 100 or so metres to the west of the Anomal-E showing. Several hundred metres east, a northeast-trending thrust fault places the Purcell rocks over a sedimentary package belonging to the Upper Cretaceous Alberta Group. The syenite-trachite stock is bound by the thrust-fault contact on its east side. The syenite in the region is reported to be younger than the fault, the fault being a likely conduit for the intrusions.

In 1987, Cominco Ltd. collected a total of 28 rock samples from a soil sampled area called Anomaly E. Rock samples R-1 to R-14 were collected to gain an understanding of the background metal values of the rocks found near the "E" anomaly zone. R-15 to R-26 were systematic chip samples taken from the Anomal-E mineralized outcrop and represent a continuous rock chip sample across 50 metres. It is not reported how long each chip sample was. Rock samples R-13 and R-14 were collected a little to the northeast of the mineralized outcrop and may be float. Sample R-13 assayed 0.277 per cent lead, 0.01 per cent zinc, and 3 grams per tonne silver, with no gold values returned; various chip samples from the mineralized outcrop returned up to 0.047 per cent lead, 0.067 per cent zinc, 0.5 gram per tonne silver, and 0.052 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 16908, Appendix F).
