Capsule Geology

The Junction SW occurrence is located at approximately 1770 metres elevation on Pincher Creek, a tributary of the Flathead River.

The showing area is underlain by Precambrian (Helikian) sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Purcell Series consisting of Nicol Creek, Sheppard, Gateway, Phillips, and/or Roosville formations. The undivided Upper Purcell sedimentary strata correlates with the Dutch Creek Formation. Diorite sills have intruded several formations of the Purcell Series.

Locally, copper mineralization occurs in friable, thinly-bedded green siltstones interbedded with red siltstones. Malachite is widespread along bedding planes; chalcopyrite occurs as very fine disseminations, and rare chalcocite has been observed on bedding surfaces.

In 1994, Hudson Bay Exploration completed a program of soil and silt geochemical surveys, prospecting and geological mapping. A sample (JCT BGR01) of mineralized green siltstone talus returned values of 7340 parts per million copper and 21.8 parts per million silver (Assessment Report 23503). subsequent chip samples from a trench (JCT-TR 94-06) across the showing did not reinforce the grab sample assay (Assessment Report 24171).

Refer to Junction 1 (082GSE073) for work history and related geological details.
