The Lewis occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 2350 metres in the southern head waters of Lewis Creek.
Regionally, the area is contained within Mesoproterozoic siliciclastic rocks belonging to the Purcell Supergroup, specifically the Fort Steele, Aldridge, and Creston formations. They are intruded by Late Cretaceous epizonal dikes, sills, and stocks, most notably the Estella Stock.
Locally, a sericite-quartz-pyrite-iron carbonate altered turbiditic quartzite unit hosts anomalous gold values associated with millimetre to centimetre in width, closely spaced, veins. Visible gold is reported to occur associated with hematite filled veins.
During 2005 through 2008, samples are reported to have yielded up to 4.117 grams per tonne gold (Thompson, R.I. (2011-06-16): Amended and Restated NI 43-101 Technical Report - Geology, Exploration Programs and Results from the Dewdney Trail Property with Recommendations for Further Exploration).
In 2014, sample DT38 was collected by PJX about 280 metres northeast of the Lewis showing. The sample area is characterized by an old pit with carbonate-altered quartzites containing chlorite and quartz veins. The quartz veins contain iron carbonate (siderite?), pyrite, galena, and chalcopyrite. The veins strike 120 degrees and dip 80 degrees south. Analysis of the sample resulted in values of 0.12 per cent lead, 0.17 per cent zinc, 0.029 per cent copper, and 3.9 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 35582).
WORK HISTORY
During 2005 through 2009, Ruby Red Resources Inc. completed programs of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping, trenching and a 4.5 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic (VLF) survey on the area.
In 2010 and 2011, the area was explored as a part of the Dewdney Trail Gold project of PJX Resources Inc. Past exploration efforts on the showing included prospecting, soil geochemistry, rock sampling, VLF-EM, magnetic surveys, IP surveys, and hand trenching.
In 2011, PJX Resources Inc. conducted geological mapping, prospecting, and rock sampling, resulting in the collection of 660 rock samples. These samples were collected from seven map areas on their Dewdney Trail property called Jacleg, Lewis Creek, Trail Creek, Upper Tackle Creek, Tackle Creek, Upper Spirit Creek, and M1 (Figure 1, Assessment Report 32868). All samples were assayed and plotted on map area and, except for samples MKPx 1 to 35, were briefly described and given a UTM location. In addition to rock sampling and mapping, PJX carried out trenching and diamond drilling on targeted areas of the property.
In 2014, prospecting was carried out in the Lewis Creek area by PJX Resources Inc. who collected 45 rock samples for analysis. Several outcrops hosting galena are marked on the “Lewis Creek Prospecting Map” (Assessment Report 35582).
In 2016 to 2022, PJX Resources Inc. conducted geological mapping, rock geochemistry sampling, airborne geophysics, and drilling on the Dewdney Trail Property (Assessment Reports 36649, 38859, 40906, 40908).
