The Win chemical-grade limestone property is located near the summit of Racehorse Pass, adjacent to the BC–Alberta border.
Regionally, the area is underlain by dolomitic carbonate rocks of the Mississippian Etherington, Mount Head and Livingstone formations (Rundle Group) and Pennsylvanian to Permian Rocky Mountain Group.
The occurrence area is underlain by limestone and limey sediments of the Mississippian Etherington formation of the Rundle Group.
Locally, there are two limestone beds of interest. The lower bed is a dark maroon-brown, moderately recrystallized limestone (marble). The upper bed is a white oolitic limestone. The combined thickness of these two beds is greater than 100 metres.
In 2001, analyses indicate grades of 54 per cent CaO, 1.5 per cent MgO and 0.2 per cent R2O3, with 43.75 per cent LOI (Assessment Report 26618).
In 2014, sampling of an area, referred to as ‘the pit’, yielded 96.44 CaCO3 over a width of 27 metres, and a similar section, 25.0 metres to the east the previous samples, assayed 96.1 per cent CaCO3 over 65.9 metres (Assessment Report 34921).
Work History
The claims were staked in 2000 by N. Tribe & Associates Ltd. The following year, a minor program of prospecting and rock sampling was conducted. In 2014, a further program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling was completed.
