Capsule Geology

The Record Ridge area is located within the Quesnel terrane of the Intermontane Belt. It is comprised of a highly deformed Jurassic volcanic island arc-back arc basin complex intruded by Tertiary volcanic and plutonic rocks. The exploration area is underlain primarily by the Paleozoic Record Ridge ultramafic body. This unit is bound on the north by the volcanics of the Tertiary Marron Formation, on the east and southeast by the volcanic rocks of the Jurassic Elise Formation and on the west and southwest by the Tertiary Coryell Intrusive Suite. Regional metamorphism has reached greenschist facies in the project area. Serpentinization is the principal alteration associated with the ultramafics at the occurrence. This alteration is from the emplacement of the Coryell Batholith and associated hydrothermal activity.

In 2005, West High Yield Resources Ltd. staked the Record Ridge property. During the 2007, 2008 and 2011 field seasons, the company conducted surface mapping, surface sampling and diamond drilling on the property. Reported assays from drilling averaged 23.8 per cent magnesium, 0.20 per cent nickel, from 77 to 126 grams per tonne cobalt and from 0.25 to 0.45 per cent chromium (Assessment Report 32869).

The 2007 to 2008 drilling programs by West High Yield Resources Ltd. defined the extent of two high magnesium zones. The two zones were intersected at 135 metres depth by 51 drill-holes. The northwest zone is tabular in shape with a diameter of 280 metres and an average thickness of 130 metres. The southeast zone is tabular in shape with a diameter of 325 metres and an average thickness of 120 metres (Collins, S., Stryhas, B. (2009-02-11): NI 43-101 Technical Report on Resources – Record Ridge South).

Mineral resources reported as of April 2013 are 7.05 million tonnes measured assaying 24.82 per cent magnesium, 3.54 million tonnes indicated assaying 24.21 per cent magnesium, 10.59 million tonnes measured and indicated assaying 24.61 per cent magnesium and 0.26 million tonnes inferred assaying 24.37 per cent magnesium (NI 43-101 Technical Report - Record Ridge Project June 13, 2013).

In June 2013, West High Yield Resources Ltd. released an NI 43-101 technical report that included the plans for an open pit mine, a novel hydrometallurgical plant, a calcined magnesia intermediate product plant and a fused magnesia production plant. The mine plan predicted a mine life of 42 years at a mill throughput of 3000 tonnes per day (Press Release, West High Yield Resources Ltd., June 5, 2013).
