The Leaky Pipe showing is located about 9 kilometres northeast of the village of Yahk and a few hundred metres southeast of the Moyie River. In general, the region is underlain by argillite, greywacke, wacke and conglomerate turbidites of the Helikian Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup). Gabbro-diorite sills and dikes of the Proterozoic Moyie Intrusions intrude the sequence.

In 2019, sample CK19-01 was collected from gabbro/altered sedimentary rock (fault zone?) containing arsenopyrite and pyrite (Assessment Report 39436). Other samples from the fault zone were reported as clay altered and being from broken quartz in fault breccia with limonite and manganese.

Of the ten rock samples collected eight returned levels for arsenic above 50 parts per million with five returning values above 100 parts per million and two of these containing values greater than 1 per cent arsenic (samples CK19-01, 02) (Assessment Report 39436). These two samples also contained greater than 0.1 per cent for cobalt (0.14 per cent from sample CK19-01 and 0.11 per cent from CK19-02) and above 0.1 gram per tonne gold (0.18 gram per tonne gold from CK19-01, and 0.13 gram per tonne from CK19-02). Elevated levels for nickel, antimony, and bismuth also occur in these two samples. Next to arsenic, zinc is the most widely anomalous element obtained from all samples with seven of the ten samples grading above 100 parts per million with two above 0.05 per cent including the program high of 0.82 per cent (from sample CK19-06). Copper and lead values were low.

A single reconnaissance VLF line completed in 2019, shows a clear image of conductive zones branching upwards toward the surface from regions of elevated conductivity in the subsurface (Assessment Report 39050). A nearly circular magnetic anomaly was found in the southeast quadrant of the Leaky Pipe property.

Work History

Though the area of Leaky Pipe claim group had been held as parts of larger claim blocks within the area since the early 1970s, no record of detailed geochemical or ground geophysical work done in the immediate area of the property was reported. However, Assessment Reports 26121, 25568, 25271, and 24652 do contain references to airborne magnetics, geological mapping, and soil sampling over portions of the claim group as part of a larger exploration program focused on the Mt. Mahon area.

In 2019, one day was spent on the Leaky Pipe mineral claim group and ten rock samples were collected out of a fault zone located in the cut bank of a recently built logging haul road (Assessment Report 39436). The work was done by Kootenay Silver Inc on behalf of owner Darlene Lavoie. Other work completed on the Leaky Pipe property in 2019 consisted of the analysis of digitized airborne magnetic data and a reconnaissance VLF-EM line across an exposed shear zone (Assessment Report 39050). The magnetic data were acquired in 1996 and reported in Assessment Report 24652 in the form of scaled maps.

In 2020, a program of rock and soil sampling was conducted by Kootenay Resources Inc. on their Moyie Anticline property utilizing both laboratory and portable XRF analytical techniques (Assessment Report 39483). During the 2020 field program more than 1420 XRF readings were taken and compiled. Several areas with anomalous lead, zinc, copper as well as gold were found during the program. The Moyie Anticline property covered parts of the 082FSE and 082GSW map areas.
