The Smallwood occurrence is reported to be located on a logging skid road near the head of Smallwood Creek.
The area is underlain by granites of the Middle Jurassic Nelson Batholith, with inclusions of older rocks. To the west these have been intruded granites of the Paleocene to Eocene Sheppard, Tuzo and Shingle Creek intrusions.
Locally, two trenches exposed a plagioclase-hornblende gneiss body, of unknown size, hosting pyrite, magnetite and chalcopyrite.
In 1966, a select sample assayed 0.39 per cent copper, 38.8 per cent iron and 3.4 grams per tonne silver (Property File - Quin, H.A. [1966-09-17]: Re: Copper Property Report).
In 1966, Mega Mineral Ltd. surveyed the area as the S.G., H.Y., M, V.M. and H claims. In 1968, the area, likely to the north of the Mega claims, was surveyed by Giant Explorations Limited.
