Several quartz veins and stockworks are located within the Nelson Intrusives lying east of Slocan Silver Camp and south of Springer Creek. A series of logging roads provide access to prospectors and geologists. During 2010, a prospecting effort discovered several mineralized quartz veins along the road system and in old workings. In particular, along the new Ottawa logging road, which heads uphill from the Springer Creek Forest Service Road, there were several sites located, grab sampled and analyzed by Tom Kennedy. This is the Ruby Steel(e) Property of Kootenay Gold Incorporated.

The Jurassic-Cretaceous Nelson Batholith granodiorite is the host rock for these vein systems. Mineralogy includes pyrite, limonite, chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite. A total of 42 grab samples from both bedrock and float identify a widespread area of mineralization. Analyses include the following selected rock samples: in parts per million for copper, lead, zinc, and silver and parts per billion for gold.
