The Peter Rock occurrence is near the northern head waters of Sawmill Creek, at an elevation of approximately 1700 metres.
Regionally, the area is underlain by mid-Proterozoic rocks of the Aldridge, Creston and Kitchener formations (Purcell Supergroup). These are intruded by mid-Proterozoic diorite and gabbro sills and dikes of the Moyie Intrusions. Cretaceous quartz monzonite and granodiorite stocks occur just off the property to both the east and the west.
Locally, former trenches expose quartz veins in a phyllite, quartzite and/or argillite with gold values.
In 1978, a rock sample (No.6) assayed 3.9 grams per tonne gold, while a composite sample (No.15) yielded 13.5 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 7103).
The area has been historically explored in conjunction with the nearby Rice (MINFILE 082FNE055) past producer. In 1978, Meridian Resources completed a program of geochemical sampling and geological mapping on the area. During 1979 through 1985, Gallant Gold Mines completed programs of rock, soil and silt sampling, trenching, geological mapping and ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys on the area as the Perry Creek property. In 1987, Chapleau Resources completed a program of soil, silt and rock sampling, trenching and geological mapping on the area as the Racki claims, Morgan property. In 1992, Wealth Resources prospected and sampled the area. In 1994, Wealth Resources completed a program of soil sampling and a 6.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area.
In 2002, Klondike Gold completed a program of rock sampling, prospecting and geological mapping on the area as the QM claims. In 2007, Klondike Gold Corp. completed airborne Aerodat electromagnetic and magnetic surveys. In 2012, Klondike Gold completed a program of rock and previous drill core sampling, prospecting and geological sampling on the area as the Quartz Mountain property.
