The Clair No. 1 (Clair Fragmental) occurrence is located on the south side of the St. Mary River valley, roughly 1.8 kilometers east of Meachen Creek and at an elevation of approximately 1060 metres.
The area is underlain by quartzite, wacke, argillite and siltstone of the Mesoproterozoic (Middle) Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup), intruded by meta-gabbro or meta-diorite of the Proterozoic Moyie Intrusions.
Locally, as identified by diamond drilling, wispy laminated and disseminated galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and arsenopyrite mineralization associated with quartz-siderite veinlets is hosted by a conglomeratic quartzitic wacke and argillite above a dioritic sill. Similar mineralization is exposed at surface near Meachen Creek to the west. Alteration minerals include albite, sericite, chlorite, calcite, silica and tourmaline.
In 1979, a diamond drill hole (C-79-1) intersected 0.4 metre (228.0 to 228.4 metres down hole) yielding 0.870 per cent lead and 0.400 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 7676).
In 1992, a sample (9298) of quartz vein from the Meachen Road area, located approximately 700 metres to the east of the Clair No. 1 occurrence, yielded 0.87 per cent copper, 4.9 grams per tonne silver and 0.14 gram per tonne gold (Property File – Minnova Inc. (1992-06-01): Horn Property Lithogeochem Sample Record).
In 1993, a drill hole (H-93-7), located approximately 1 kilometre to the south on the Horn 24 claim, intersected a narrow sphalerite-galena vein at 596.3 metres down hole yielding 2.39 per cent zinc, 0.67 per cent lead and 22.0 grams per tonne silver over 0.20 metre (Assessment Report 23315).
In 2016, re-logging of drill hole H96-9 yielded a visually estimated grade of 0.5 per cent combined lead-zinc over a 16-metre section of core hosting disseminated sphalerite with lesser galena mineralization (Assessment Report 36388).
Work History
In 1971, Kerr Addison Mines Ltd. conducted a regional program of geological mapping and geochemical (soil and silt) sampling on the are as part of the Dewar Creek project.
In 1979, Cominco conducted a program of soil sampling, geological mapping and a single, 370.6-metre, diamond drill hole on the area as the Clair claims. In 1983 and 1985, Cominco completed a seismic survey and a ground electromagnetic survey on the area. Also in 1983, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. conducted an airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as part of the Mount Evans property. In 1987, Esso Resources completed a program of rock and silt sampling, geological mapping and a 3.0 line-kilometre electromagnetic survey on the area as the Mac 1-10 claims.
In 1991 and 1992, Minnova, in conjunction with Kokanee Explorations, completed a regional program of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and a 12.0 line-kilometre electromagnetic survey on the area as the Horn and Darlin claims. The following year, Metall Mining Corporation, in conjunction with Consolidated Ram Rod Gold, completed a 10.0 line-kilometre electromagnetic survey and two diamond drill holes, totalling 1438.3 metres, on the area. In 1998, Black Bull Resources completed a program of geological mapping and soil sampling on the Horn claims.
In 2001, Abitibi Mining completed a program of geological mapping on the area. In 2014, Homegold Resources prospected and rock sampled the area. In 2016, a program of re-logging core from two previously unreported drillholes (H92-06 and H96-09), totalling 1134.3 metres of core, was completed.
In 2020 and 2021, Edward Sanders completed a minor program of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and a 4.0 line-kilometre gravity survey on the Sinclair and Golden Larch claims. In 2022, Amaroq Gold Corp. completed a 9.6 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey and a 303.0 line-kilometre airborne electromagnetic and radiometric survey on the Sinclair and Golden Larch claims.
