The Sawyer showing is located on the eastern slopes of Sawyer Pass, approximately 19.5 kilometres east of Riondel. In 1995, Initial reconnaissance programs discovered numerous high grade float samples taken from avalanche chutes on the Sawyer 8 claim. In 1996, in-situ mineralization was found at an elevation of 2115 metres on Chute #1. Later, the same year, two drill holes, totalling 180.5 metres, tested the zone. In 2005, the claims were acquired by Jasper Mining Corp. and a program of geochemical sampling and geophysical surveys was completed over the next couple of years.
The property straddles the geological boundary between the Hadrynian Windermere Supergroup and the Helikian Purcell Supergroup. Locally, phyllite and schist, interbedded quartzite, pebble and cobble conglomerate and grey limestone of the Horsethief Creek Group; pebble and cobble conglomerate, quartzite and grit and phyllite of the Toby Formation occur.
Mineralization consists of massive sphalerite, galena and tetrahedrite, in a siliceous limestone. The outcrop measures, approximately, 1 metre thick and 10 metres wide.
In 1996, samples of the mineralized lens returned values up to 21.16 per cent lead, 29.84 per cent zinc and 337.5 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 24654).
