The Yell anomaly is located on the south western slopes of Mount Laidlaw.

The area is underlain by Eocene volcanics of the Marron and Marama formations (Penticton Group).Locally, dacite flows of the Marama Formation host stock works of chalcedony and quartz veinlets.

In 1989, Canamax Resources completed a prospecting and sampling program on the Yell 1-3 claims. Sampling of chalcedony veinlets returned up to 0.4 parts per million silver, 15 parts per billion mercury and 10 parts per million arsenic. Another sample of rusty, bleached volcanic rock of the Kitley member (Marron Formation) returned 205 parts per million mercury and 575 parts per million arsenic (Property File: Lee, L. (1989-06-08))
