Capsule Geology

The BPO (Hamilton/Mundy) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 900 metres, near the southeast side of Mundy Creek and approximately 1.2 kilometres northeast of the creek’s junction with Boundary Creek.

Regionally, the area is underlain by chert, siliceous argillite and siliciclastic rocks of the Devonian to Permian Knob Hill Group, which are in fault contact with volcanic sandstone and siltstone, shale, conglomerate, tuffs and volcanic flows of the Eocene Penticton Group. Intruding all units are syenitic rocks of the Eocene Coryell Plutonic Suite, and the Knob Hill Group rocks have also been intruded by granodioritic rocks of the Cretaceous Anstey Pluton and Middle Jurassic granitic rocks.

Locally, skarn zones associated with a trachyandesite host at least two quartz vein structures with minor pyrite and pyrrhotite mineralization.

In 1984, a rock sample (M-3) of outcrop taken on the west side of Mundy Creek, to the northwest, yielded 0.55 gram per tonne gold and 2.1 grams per tonne silver, whereas another sample (M-12) taken from a former shaft located on a small knoll to the southwest yielded 0.42 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 13135).

In 1986, samples from pits, located to the southwest, yielded up to 0.125 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 15308).

In 1987, a rock sample (BP-0) from the main area assayed 0.45 gram per tonne gold and 5.8 grams per tonne silver, whereas another rock sample (BP-18MS) yielded 35.9 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 16543).

In 1989, a rock sample (BPA2) from the main area assayed 36.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 19252).

The area has been explored since the late 1800s, with the Hamilton (L.2079) claim being staked in 1896 and Crown granted in 1900. At least four pits and a shallow shaft have been identified and likely date to this period.

In 1965, Scurry-Rainbow Oil Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping, soil sampling and various ground and airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the PP claims.

In 1983, Sage Resources Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling and prospecting on the area immediately north as the Mitzi claim. In 1984, the area was prospected and sampled as the Mundy and Hamilton claims. In 1986 and 1987, programs of rock and soil sampling, prospecting and minor trenching were conducted. In 1989, a program of rock and soil sampling and a 5.0 line-kilometre ground self-potential survey was completed.
