The area is mapped as sedimentary rock of the Triassic Brooklyn Formation intruded by syenitic to monzonitic plutons of the Eocene Coryell Intrusion. Chalcopyrite disseminated in skarn was reported in the area by Occatilla in 1969 but no location was given.
In 1968, Copper Hill Mining and Exploration conducted mapping and magnetometer and I.P. surveys. Road was built to access drill sites. In 1969, 609 metres in 5 diamond-drill holes were completed by Occatilla Exploration Co. Ltd. D.M. Cox was the owner in both years. In 1971, Spokane National Mines carried out limited mapping and geophysical surveys to determine the extent of the Brooklyn Formation and Knob Hill Group.
With the Ridge property held by Rex Silver Mines Ltd., and covering much of the same ground as the earlier companies did, Taiga Consultants Ltd. carried out magnetometer, VLF-EM, soil geochemical and geological mapping surveys in 1983 and drilling in 1985-86. The drill program consisted of 12 reverse circulation holes totaling 376.4 metres and 6 diamond drill holes totaling 397.4 metres. The 1985-86 program of Rex Silver Mines Ltd. encountered sulphides occurring as fine to coarse-grained euhedral masses of pyrite, sphalerite, some arsenopyrite and minor pyrrohotite and chalcopyrite. The sulphides are associated with brecciated and minor shear zones within the Devonian to Permian Knob Hill Group chert and accompanied by minor calcite and quartz-pyrite veinlets. Gold values as high as 17.2 grams per tonne were obtained from RD-DDH-2 but only over 3.8 centimetres which was all that was recovered of the sulphides in the drillcore (Assessment Report 14875). High values in silver and zinc were also reported.
During 2008 through 2012, Grizzly Discoveries Inc. completed programs of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping, ground geophysical surveys and diamond drilling on the area as the Motherlode portion of the Greenwood property.
In 2009, a sample (09BMP104) of mineralized quartz vein collected near the Top showing from a waste pile near a shaft assayed 2.83 grams per tonne gold, 32 grams per tonne silver, 0.429 per cent copper, 0.172 per cent lead and 0.523 per cent zinc (Dufresne, M. (2013-11-25): Technical Report for the Greenwood Gold Project).
In 2011, drilling of an HLEM conductor at the Motherlode North target, located approximately 900 metres north of the Motherlode (MINFILE 082ESE034) pit and in the area of the Top occurrence, yielded 1.64 grams per tonne gold and 3.15 grams per tonne silver over 14.85 metres, including 6.79 grams per tonne gold, 11.1 grams per tonne silver and 1.04 per cent zinc over 1.5 metres in hole 11ML05, 17.15 grams per tonne gold, 41.7 grams per tonne silver, 0.56 per cent lead and 1.51 per cent zinc over 1.5 metres in hole 11ML03 and 0.51 gram per tonne gold over 13.5 metres, including 3.43 grams per tonne gold over 1.5 metres in hole 11ML04 (Dufresne, M. (2013-11-25): Technical Report for the Greenwood Gold Project).
