The Ant claims are located between Franklin and Gloucester creeks, approximately 62 kilometres northwest of Castlegar.
The oldest rocks in the area are the sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the ‘Franklin Group’, more recently assigned to the Harper Ranch Group (Devonian to Triassic). These rocks occur as pendants and remnants within a variety of younger intrusive rocks, ranging from granodiorite to the syenite, monzonite and pyroxenite of the Averill Complex.
Locally, syenitic rocks and pyroxenite of the Averill Complex are predominant. Franklin Group rocks occur near Franklin Creek, and Valhalla granites are exposed towards the north.
Mineralization occurs as massive chalcopyrite in a vertical, centimetre thick, fault or shear oriented to the north east. Altered syenite containing chalcopyrite occurs across 20 centimetres and is exposed over 1.5 metres.
In 1987, Placer Dome conducted a field program of geological mapping, soil sampling, and geophysical surveys over the area covered by the Ant 1, 3, and 11 claims. The Ant Hill showing, 550 metres to the south east, was discovered at this time. Recent rock exposures on a new logging road were observed in October 2000, which led the W.J. Wilkinson to locate the Ant 1 to 13 claims, and to do fieldwork in June, 2001. Tuxedo Resources Ltd. optioned the claims in July, 2001.
In 2001, a rock sample, across the exposed zone, returned values of 3975 parts per million copper, 116 parts per billion gold, 30 parts per billion platinum and 93 parts per billion palladium (Assessment Report 26910).
